Dr Julie Gough
I work to bring elements of often historic stories, places, objects, events together to forward them, enlivened and merged, for present-day encounter with an audience.
I am a lecturer in Visual arts, a sculptor and installation artist whose research interests and projects often focus on Indigenous and colonial histories, about which I also write. My mixed media artwork often aims to uncover and re-present historical stories as part of an ongoing questioning and re-evaluation of the impact of the past on our present lives. A central intention of my art is to invite a viewer to a closer understanding of our continuing roles in, and proximity to unresolved National stories.
Cross cultural and cross disciplinary investigations and collaborations are important processes in my work, these assist in drawing out and explicating sometimes elusive and incongruent colonial strategies.
